2-Top24Moments
Top 24 Moments
Season 2
Well, here they finally are...in my humble opinion, the top 24 moments of season 2. You may not agree with mr but at least you'll hopefull enjoy the trip down memory lane! :-)
Runners up:
1. Jack chasing and shooting Alex on the roof. This was wonderful because we got to see how…imbalanced, Alex is. Jack manages to actually chase him down, all the while trying not to keel over from a heart attack, and then Hewitt pulls the gun. It is surprising when, even after Jack warns him, Alex doesn’t drop the gun. Jack has no choice but to shoot him so he doesn’t get shot himself, then Alex is still surprised and seems offended that Jack actually shot him. What did he really expect? It’s pretty apparent that this guy is a couple of cards short. 7:00am-8:00am
2. Jack’s first meeting with Wallace. I don’t think we’ve had any character develop as fast as Wallace. This first meeting, in about 2 minutes, we learn everything about Wallace that we need to know. He’s a traitor that is highly trained and they’re after him. We learn the most about his morals (or lack thereof) when we learn that he killed his team. IT was too bad that he died so fast; he could have been really…interesting. 12:00am-1:00am.
3. George Mason getting a scrub-brush shower after being exposed to the radiation. I especially loved the little brush of comedy, how absurd it is that he won’t give up the phone and his skin comments. Berkeley is awesome in this and since it is really just him in this scene he gets all the kudos. 10:00am-11:00am
4. Jack and the repairman in the van at CTU. Sutherland is superb in this scene and the repairman matches him. This guy is just great. He does such a great job of being angry with Jack, then scared when he realizes Jack is slightly off his rocker. Great writing and acting. 10:00am-11:00am
5. Tony busting Keri for trying to extort a raise out of her. This scene showed a lot of integrity from Tony and it was great to see Keri get busted for her slightly crooked ways. The only thing that angered me was that Chapelle didn’t do more about it. I think she should have gotten the boot, but then again, I could see Chapelle approving of this kind of behaviour under the table. 2:00am-3:00am.
And, here are the finalists, the top 24 moments:
24. George going off on Reza at CTU. This was an extension of badass Tony as far as I’m concerned, but it kind of had a different feel as George did it. Mason is nearing the end of his rope and he doesn’t have time to waste with people that are playing games with him. In the end when he gets sick it really shows a lot for Mason’s character, how far he’ll go to do his job. 3:00pm-4:00pm
23. The intense elevator ride with Lynn and Sherry. It was really nice to have some release of the tension that had been building up between these two; it’s not something that we get a lot of in this show. We got closure before we really had to and it worked well. This scene was acted so well, the attitudes were perfect for the characters and the actresses nailed it. This also led nicely to the tension that was recreated later on. 8:00pm-9:00pm.
22. Jack’s first meeting with Sherry at Alex’s place. I loved how these two characters stood their ground throughout this and stayed loyal to their characteristics. Sherry, her usual indignant self, thinking that everyone must conform to what she wants. Jack, Mr. I-want-answers-and-I-want-them-now, is even more impatient than usual since he has recently come back to life. It also seems after the past antics of Sherry, has neither the time nor the energy to argue with her and do what she wants. The best part was when he shot the wall next to her, her reaction…perfect Sherry Palmer. 5:00am-6:00am
21. Marie and Marko’s boss. This spoke volumes for what Marie has done and is prepared to do to get the job done. She has just shot her fiancée and now she is going to do a ‘favour’ to one of the guys’ bosses to get the trigger for the bomb. IT is scary and a touch unnerving that someone could be that much of an extremist and their family wouldn’t know about it. The entire premise doesn’t really fit in with a lot of things that have happened on the show, but it works, it’s creative and it’s well acted. 6:00pm-7:00pm
20. Mike and Palmer debating the veracity of the Cypress Audio. Haysbert did such a great job of stating the Palmer case. Mike was playing the devils advocate wanting to go foreword since they have proof that the counties worked against the US. Haysbert’s delivery of his line ‘what if the proof is a lie?’ is profound and chilling, perfect as Palmer, perfectly done. Two men debating the future of the planet. 11:00pm-12:00pm
19. Kim final confrontation with Gary. Elisha Cuthbert did a great job in this scene and I really liked every moment of it. The predicament that Kim is in is somewhat annoying and sometimes it just seems to be filler but it all seems to work up to this moment, I think it was worth it. Cuthbert does a superb job of playing the fearful Kim and Sutherland does a great job himself trying to convince her to shoot Gary once, and then again from over the phone. Jack is the “born killer” but it seems not to have passed to the next generation from the reaction of Kim. Though it was a very Jack-like move to hit Gary in the head with a roller blade and she also had the presence of mind to get the gun from him before she called Jack. This was overall quite well written and wonderfully acted. 5:00am-6:00am
18. Tony pulling a Jack on Chapelle. It was really nice to see a few things in this scene. The first is that Tony can do the regular agent-type stuff. He seems to be in the office almost all the time. The only time Tony’s left CTU in 2 years was to go get Teri last season and to go get Reza and Bob, with this scene he got some action at CTU. The other nice thing about this scene was that it showed how far Tony would go to stand by his principles. Drugging Chapelle would be comparable to Jack drugging Mason in the first episode of the first season. This shows a lot for Tony’s character and allows us to forgive him a little easier for the things he did earlier. Finally, it was nice to see that Jack’s rubbing of on him! 5:00am-6:00am
17. Kate and Marie’s cell phone conversation until the very end when Marie hangs up and tosses it out the window. I found this to be a good indication of exactly what frame of mind Kate is subscribing to with Marie. The way she tries to hide what she actually knows but then ends up letting Marie know. The way Marie was so calm and collected about it all and then, level-headedly, tosses the phone. I really loved this scene…it was after that it went all downhill. 7:00pm-8:00PM
16. The romance between Michelle and Tony. I don’t think that I can pick one moment that either summed it all up or that I like best, so I’m calling this one huge moment. Right from the beginning, there was a romantic link. Tony wanted to keep his distance originally because of Nina, and then they end up kissing, the awkward morning-after type apology and finally the acceptance, the hand-holding in the interrogation room and the kind of charmingly silly ‘see you tomorrow’ conversation in the finale. I found this enjoyable all around and also totally unobtrusive. It kind of happened in the background and didn’t get in the way. (Various Episodes)
15. Palmer and Aaron’s conversation while Palmer was being held by Prescott. I think that having Aaron on his side was a great morale booster for Palmer, not to mention Aaron got him the phone to contact CTU. This was emphasized with the bit of comedy that was used, Aaron wasn’t supposed to speak to Palmer, but he does. When Palmer asks about it Aaron just smiles and says that he’s trying. I just loved everything about this scene, it was well done, it meant something and it was even funny. All my favourite things. 5:00pm-6:00pm
14. Badass Tony with Reza. If you frequent my page, you have probably heard me use the phrase “bad-ass Tony”. I really like this side of Tony, the real tough agent and not the Tony that we see a lot of at CTU. Bernard does a great job of playing slightly desperate and angry Tony who will do anything to get the information he needs from Reza. I prefer this Tony to kind of wimpy doormat Tony that we get quite often. (Various Episodes)
13. John Mason. I don’t think there was anything about this scene that I didn’t like. When Mason decides that he needs to talk to his son he has him brought into CTU in handcuffs. It is apparent from before that his son doesn’t care what Mason does, but as a son, he has to care, even if he says he doesn’t. It’s not until Mason admits to John that he’s dying that we see him deteriorate from tough-guy neglected child to a son that doesn’t want to say goodbye to his dad. This was really powerful and Eric Christian-Olsen who plays john Mason did a great job for a guy that was only seen in one episode. Xander Berkeley also paralleled Olson’s awesome job showing George Mason realizing that he is really going to die, and soon. 2:00pm-3:00pm
12. The contents of Jack’s drawer. This small scene told us volumes about the place that Jack is in at the beginning of the season. Jack opens the drawer and what is starting back at him but his gun and a facedown picture of his broken family, the same one that was everywhere last season. The way he has a look and then pauses and chooses the picture, not the gun was both scary and felt very genuine. Sutherland’s expressions here were spectacular. This also opens up the healing process later on in the day when Jack is on the plane with Mason. Mason knows that Jack has been looking for a ‘way out’ and this scene really sets that up for us. This begins the day in a way that makes the choice Jack makes to get out of the plane and how hard he fights in the last few hours even more powerful. This is why I love the writers of this show. 8:00am-9:00am
11. Nina’s conversation with the president while she holds Jack hostage. This scene was great from the time she picked up the phone with Mike to the very end. All the contributors of this did an excellent job. Mason, Tony and Michelle listening in and their reactions, Mike who seems to sympathize with Palmer and everything about what Palmer did, from the frustration of his predicament to the single tear that falls after he hangs up. Jack was also great in this scene, just taking it all in and not really showing any emotion about it until it comes to Kim and reassuring the president. Not a flaw that I could find in this. 4:00pm-5:00pm
10. Ronnie and his panic when he realizes Jack is dead. The character of Ronnie was great. Other than the fact that he did what he did, he was calm and collected through the entire gruesome hour. He was cool while inflicting pain on Jack; obviously he’s a veteran of this sort of behaviour. Then he almost snaps at his boss, he keeps calmly assuring him that he’ll be fine. Then, it all takes a wrong turn. After Jack passes out and Ronnie orders that he be awakened (again) Ronnie is informed that Jack has not passed out from pain, he has died. At this all hell breaks loose, Ronnie knows that he can’t let Jack die without getting the information so he panics. All calmness aside he starts yelling at his men and tries wildly to revive Jack, this is a complete departure from the character we’ve seen thus far. Eventually, of course, Jack lives, but Ronnie doesn’t. 1:00am-2:00am
9. Jack after the plane crash. Everything that happens here is great. Jack rolls out of the plane and lands with a thud. He wants to find the others but then has a problem with a twig. His determination is peaked when he pulls the twig out of his leg and limps off to find the others. Rick just wants to find Nina and Jack takes off to do it. The way we are set up to think that Nina is dead and then Jack decides to revive her without hesitation. I assume that if he were going to kill her he would have done it already, but if she had died there, he wouldn’t have been to blame. This was well written and superbly acted; even though there was not really any dialogue it was excellent. 4:00pm-5:00pm
8. Jack chasing Nina down after she escaped from Faheen and the other agents. The way he chases her down in the stairwell, she realizes that she can’t get out and she knows that Jack is behind her. He holds the gun to her back and she waits. You can practically see the thoughts going through Jack’s mind. He really wants to shoot her, to get revenge, but if he does and they don’t find the bomb he’s in trouble. Sutherland does such a good job, from the intense stare to the shaking hands and then his tone of voice when he finally decides to cuff her and take her in. 2:00pm-3:00pm
7. Jack’s interrogation of Syed Ali. I have said before that I loved this episode; this was one of my favourite parts of it. Quinn did a stunning job of playing Ali, he was just so convincing, especially before he broke while he played the Ali that was firm in his belief that what he was doing is right. I also loved the way Jack’s character was reflected in these scenes, especially when he “killed” Ali’s son, his line “I despise you for making me do this” was classic Jack and was delivered so well, you can see that Jack doesn’t want to be destroying another family after what happened to his. When Ali finally decides to tell Jack what he wants to know at the threat of killing his last son, it is so believable; Quinn plays the broken man perfectly. 7:00pm-8:00pm
6. Nina’s casual look at Jack and his stunned reaction when she first enters CTU. I don’t think that there is anything that I can say to magnify the power of this scene. Clarke and Sutherland were excellent and it was possibly the best silence ever written. There is no dialogue necessary, watch this scene again, it’s perfect. 12:00am-1:00pm
5. Jack finding Yusuf and saying goodbye. I thought this was a well thought out scene that allowed us to say goodbye to a character that we knew shortly but really liked. I felt a definite lack of closure after Yusuf tried to make the phone call and then gave up. It was good to get an ending to this short storyline, even though I didn’t think it should have been that short. Yusuf was a great character and I was very sad to see him go. Jack finding him in the phone booth was a nice touch and ending, especially with him saying, “I’m sorry” in that saddened tone. We all know the last time he said that to a dying character on this show, don’t we? 1:00am-2:00am
4. The Kingsley-Sherry meeting at the coliseum. I loved how Sherry kept the tension up without letting on what was really happening, then when Kingsley found out how she tried to cover it up. She did an excellent job of keeping her cool and Johnson-Jerald was almost perfect. Not to mention Tobin Bell as Kingsley, I was ever impressed by him. The icing on the cake was Haysbert while he listened to the gunfire as the meeting broke. He didn’t say a word but he completed the scene beautifully. 7:00am-8:00am
3. Jack and Palmer’s phone conversation at CTU. Jack is already down, we know this. Now, he is being told that the woman that killed his wife and effectively destroyed his family and life is going to be allowed a ‘shadow asylum.’ To top it all off, she is in on a plot that killed a lot of his ex-coworkers and he sees her for the first time since ‘day one’. Sutherland is marvelous in this scene and Haysbert again plays his part to a t. He does the classy thing and tells Jack himself what’s going on, this can hardly take the edge off of what is happening for Jack. His stunned silence and sheer loathing tone of voice are great. 1:00pm-2:00pm
2. Jack’s interrogation of Nina, both of them. I really enjoyed both times he interrogated Nina at CTU, the way he didn’t let her phase him and showed her that he was in charge while he got to take out quite a bit of anger on her. My favourite part of this was when he held her against the wall and threatened her followed closely by the 2 shots he unloaded over top of her head; close enough to move the hair. All of his actions and Nina’s reactions were wonderfully complimented by Michelle’s obvious fear of Jack while she watched and after he left. The way she looked at him it made me think that she thought he was going to do that to her next. 1:00pm-2:00pm
1. Masons accurate psychoanalysis of Jack and their subsequent goodbye.
Other than the cheesiness of the entire ‘Mason on the plane’ storyline I found these scenes to be wonderfully acted and very touching. Mason seems to have seen enough people like Jack to know exactly what he’s going through and exactly what he’s thinking. His thirty-second psychoanalysis of Jack is bang on, indeed it seems he has been looking for a way out ever since Teri died. Jack didn’t argue, he just listened sounding surprised at first but then allowing Masons conclusions to go untested. Then this scene is completed with Mason telling Jack how to be a ‘real hero’ and Jack letting him take the plane in. Later they make their goodbyes and Mason goes out with a bang, the kind of exit a character as great as his deserves. 10:00pm-11:00pm
Runners up:

She has just shot her fiancée and now she is going to do a ‘favour’ to one of the guys’ bosses to get the trigger for the bomb.
