24 Season 7 - What we know:
-TV Guide interviewed Mary Lynn Rajskub at the trailer premiere in NYC. Here's the highlights:
  • "The trailer opens with a new setting of Washington, D.C., and Bauer on trial ... [h]owever, sticking to the spirit of 24, things start going wrong very quickly when ex-colleague Tony Almeida returns as Jack’s new nemesis."
  • "... Rajskub said . “It’s more about the shocking people that are living rather than the shocking deaths this year.”
  • “I show up, time has passed and I have a 1-year-old and a wedding ring, [and I'm] calling Morris while I’m busy,” Rajskub said. “So far he’s taking care of the baby, but he’ll be around.”
-Season 7 will take place in 2017 in the 24 Universe
-A Fox Press release is announcing the return of Tony Almeida. Here's the body of the press release.
"The innovative, addictive, Emmy Award-winning television series 24 resets the clock for Season Seven with a special two-night premiere event Sunday, Jan. 13 (8:00-10:00 PM ET/PT) and Monday, Jan. 14 (9:00-10:00 PM ET/PT) on FOX.
In keeping with FOX’s commitment to airing original programming year-round, the intense season will unfold in 24’s regular 9:00-10:00 PM ET/PT time period beginning Monday, Jan. 14, and will continue to air all originals all season into June.
“Day 7” of 24 will continue the show’s unique and trend-setting format with compelling new elements. With CTU dismantled, the show’s setting moves to Washington, DC, where JACK BAUER (Kiefer Sutherland) faces trial for his actions in the pursuit of justice. Bauer’s day gets off to a shocking start when former colleague TONY ALMEIDA (Carlos Bernard), last seen in “Day 5,” returns after being left for dead by a terrorist conspirator in CTU’s infirmary.
“Tony’s uncertain fate near the end of ‘Day 5’ left the door open for his return,” said executive producer/show-runner Howard Gordon. “And since there was no silent clock at the conclusion of his last appearance – the 24 tribute to a major character’s demise – we always kept this as a possibility.”
Bernard’s return highlights a list of notable cast members clocking in for Season Seven, including the previously announced Cherry Jones (“The Heiress”) as President ALLISON TAYLOR and Janeane Garofalo (“The Larry Sanders Show”) as FBI Agent JANIS GOLD. Colm Feore (“Bury My Heart At Wounded Knee”) will play First Gentleman HENRY TAYLOR and Bob Gunton (“Desperate Housewives”) is White House Chief of Staff ETHAN KANIN.
FBI Agents assigned to the team investigating the crisis befalling Bauer include Garofalo’s Agent Gold in addition to Annie Wersching (“General Hospital”) as Agent RENEE WALKER, Jeffrey Nordling (“Dirt”) as Agent LARRY MOSS and Rhys Coiro (“Entourage”) as Agent SEAN HILLINGER. John Billingsley (PRISON BREAK) portrays security specialist MICHAEL LATHAM. Although CTU is no longer, CHLOE O’BRIAN (Mary Lynn Rajskub) and BILL BUCHANAN (James Morrison) are back for another momentous day of shocking events.
As part of News Corp.’s global commitment to fighting climate change, 24 has pledged significant and innovative changes to its production practices with the goal of saving energy and reducing carbon emissions. Created by Joel Surnow and Robert Cochran, 24 is a production of Real Time Productions and Imagine Television in association with 20th Century Fox Television. Joel Surnow, Robert Cochran, Howard Gordon, Evan Katz, Jon Cassar, Manny Coto, David Fury, Kiefer Sutherland and Brian Grazer are the executive producers."
-Peter Wigfield has been cast as "Emerson", here's a quote from his fan site: "After many false dawns when I thought I was going to be on the ground-breaking and consistently acclaimed Fox Network Show, 24, I am pleased to announce that I have been cast to play the character Emerson in the second episode of the new season. I can honestly say I haven’t been as excited about a job since I left Drama school. I think this season has the makings of being the best yet—quite a prospect given the extraordinarily high standard of this show. I am relishing the chance to work with some of the finest talents in the industry, particularly rekindling my association with Executive Producers Jon Cassar and Howard Gordon."
-2 more additions- Annie Wershing must have done something Cassar and the others liked while she was working on "The Company Man" because they have picked her up as a major female lead for next season. She will be playing "an FBI agent that has an adversarial relationship with Jack Bauer." Apparently, Bob Guntin who played Secretary Ethan Kanin last year, is currently in negotiations for the next season as well.
-More casting news - Added: John Billingsley to play "Latham", Jeffrey Nordling to be a regular and play "Larry the FBI Agent", Rhys Coiro as an FBI Agent, Colm Feore as the President's Husband with rumors that there will be trouble with the offspring, hopefully not too much like David and Keith Palmer.
-New Cast Addition - Janeane Garofalo has been cast as a female FBI agent, an analyst, for Season 7. As Ausiello says, "...her character is a government agent who is part of the team investigating the crisis befalling Jack Bauer and Co. in the upcoming season, ... since the comedienne's persona often brings to mind Mary Lynn Rajskub's prickly Chloe, the potential for on-screen fireworks is greater than it has been during any of the show's previous bomb threats"
-As of August 16th the filming of 24 has been delayed yet again until September 10th. Is is supposedly so that the producers can plan a little farther down the road in the wake of last season.
-According to Jon Cassar's personal site they are fishing for some "big name actors for possible regular roles around the new president." He also makes it pretty clear that at least a good chunk of this season will revolve around Washington, DC.
-It looks like it won't all be beaurocratic, though. Cassar talks about setting up "a shotgun blast and big explosion" Sounds like 24 to me!
-Originally Season 7 was going to be filmed (at the beginning at least) in Africa with Jack working at a Habitat for Humanity-type place. The idea was scrapped by Fox due to cost ($4 million). This put the writers back at square one but they have been working on integrating this idea somehow still. "Right now, Africa is out but somewhere in the United States is in."
-Howard Gordon says about Africa: "Jack was wandering and finding where he belongs in the world. On one level, his friend says, ‘If you think you’re going to find penance here, you’re not going to find it.’ Jack actually has been there for a couple of months, and we learn he has been wandering the world basically trying to find a place to belong and looking for penance and realizes he’s not going to find it anywhere, so he gets caught up in a coup and has a Black Hawk Down kind of moment."
-To get him back to the US they were going to jump ahead 12 hours to bring him back to the US thus officially breaking the 'real time' for the first time in series history.
-They are talking about placing it outside of LA but it's ultimately up to the studio and network due to budgeting and the fact that they don't want to lose their crew
-Jack is totally on his own, he is a freelancer. "Bauer will be his own boss , at the end of the sixth season he’s tired, disillusioned with the government and doesn’t want to have anything more to do with the presidency ... he's going to be on his own." (Sutherland)
-The end of Season 6 will have an effect for Season 7 to "inform during the show everything that he [Jack] had done from the end of Season 6 to the beginning of Season 7, which is actually really simple, but really smart."
-Chloe is back. In what capacity and doing what has likely changed since the Africa thing got the boot.
-We are pretty sure Chloe will be with child though.
-Time frame will be "not too far" ahead.'
-New president will be 'well articulated and idealized' as opposed to the shady characters we have seen. She has no past with Jack.
-There are all kinds of rumors of Tony's return after the planning of the stunt at the end of Season 6 where he would show up. Apparently they "briefly toyed with the idea of making Tony the Big Bad for Season 7, but that plot was scrapped." The role was then pitched to Gary Oldman who turned it down.
-The quote from the 24 brass is: "unless we have seen someone dead, deader than a doornail, they very well may not be"
-CTU has been disbanded at the start of Season 7. Jack has been hauled in front of a Senate Committee to account for his actions over the past several seasons. There is a strong possibility that at least this part of the show will be set in Washington DC.
-The CTU sets will probably become the Washington bureau of the FBI.
-24 is pushing an environmentally friendly set this season by taking steps to reduce it's carbon footprint. They will use biodiesel fuels to power generators and vehicles, use renewable resources and electric power, use hybrid vehicles and do PSA's with Kiefer Sutherland and other cast members. They are also going to try to work this into the storylines. Their goal is to save enough over the year to render the finale 'carbon neutral'
-Likely starts at 7am Eastern, either New York or Washington, DC but really shot in LA.
-Currently it seems that there is no Season 7 prequel planned.
-Jon Cassar will be directing Episodes 1 and 2 while Brad Turner will direct Episodes 3 and 4.
